ON THE EASEL

I’ve been working on a new 36″ x 48″ piece for a few weeks now and am just finishing it up. Here’s a sneak peek at some progress pictures*. I tried to take pictures from the same vantage point (hence the cropped layers). apologies for the glare.

More very soon.

first pass

bkgd + darks glazing

lights glazing + detail work

*these images show only about 1/4 of the whole piece.

hello aaron! do you use a grid system or project photos with a projector to block-in the initial drawing for a painting? your imagery is very captivating – thanks for your art!

hey mark. I use a bunch of different methods, depending on the piece and how lazy i’m feeling: from just rough sketches to a grid sketch to the old fashioned carbon transfer method (which I use a lot because it’s so fast). I generally only use a projector to layout type, since I’m usually following some kind of perfect circle. thanks for your comment!
