A few weeks ago, I was asked to be a part of a fantastic group show curated by Ken Harmon for Oakland’s Best of the East Bay party. The show was thrown together in less than two weeks and featured a ton of artists from the Bay Area, most of whom I hadn’t met before. It was a really fun night and I loved being a part of something so Oakland, this really is one of the best cities on earth. Here’s a few (stolen) pictures — the show was covered very extensively by a ton of blogs so If you want to see more coverage, check out these sites:

burgeoning self-taught artist (i.e a definite work in progress)that greatly admires your work…just saw two of your pieces last night @ the “Western Expansion” exhibit @ the Phillip Slein Gallery in STL…”Floater” really resonated with me…a truly magnetic work…wondering what your process is with respect to creating the circular lettering that encompasses the figure’s head? are you using home-made stencils to create the lettering; what about the color process for the lettering as well? thanks in advance for entertaining my questions…
I generally do digital comps of the lettering in photoshop, then project the letters onto a mostly finished piece. I use the projection to figure out where the text goes, then do detail work freehand. the color process I sometimes test digitally, but mostly its on the fly. I’ll glaze if needed once it’s dry. hope that helps! glad you enjoyed the piece!
